The purpose of the module is to introduce students to research methods in the field of English language teaching. Students will read about and examine the principles of research in ELT, develop research questions, explore qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches, and consider topics such as research ethics, data collection, data analysis, and the interpretation of research findings. Throughout the module, students will critically analyze published research, participate in practical activities, and progressively develop the components of their own research proposal. The module also aims to introduce the responsible use of artificial intelligence as a tool to support research and academic writing while emphasizing critical thinking, academic integrity, and ownership of their work.
